The 2028 elections
The next presidential election is on November 7, 2028. Coverage of the candidates, polls and the House and Senate races will open here as the data becomes available.
What is on the ballot
Americans choose the president on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, which in 2028 is November 7. All 435 seats in the U.S. House are up again, along with roughly a third of the Senate and a number of governorships and state legislative seats.
How the president is chosen
Voters in each state choose electors, and the electors choose the president. There are 538 electors, so a candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win. Almost every state gives all its electors to the candidate who wins its popular vote; Maine and Nebraska split theirs by district.
The road to November
Each party picks its nominee through state primaries and caucuses that begin in early 2028, then confirms the choice at a national convention. After that comes the general election campaign.
We will add this election the way we cover 2026: candidates and reported money, polls and forecasts with the source and date of each, and the people behind each forecast. Until then, see the 2026 elections and the 2027 elections.
